MARKHA TREK

Overview

Markha valley trek is one of the most famous treks in ladakh due to its easy reach and magnificent features this trek has been attracting tourist from all over the world. The valley is between the Zangskar and leh range. The starting point is from village Chilling which is 60km west from leh and ends at Sumda village lying southwest of Leh . As this valley is under the Hemis national park, there are many chances to see the wild animals like snow leopard, Blue-sheep, Marmot, Wolf, Fox etc. Moreover, the valley offers you many varieties of flowers like adelweiss, root-rose, wild aster and the blue flower are in very common.  The small villages and the monasteries there, makes this valley more pure. View of the beautiful peaks such as Kangyatse, Stok kangri  etc. adds more to the scenery . River crossing, Lunch under the shades like by every trekkers.

  • Hemis national park, Flora-Fauna, Villages, Local interaction, Monastery ,Shepherds camps etc.

  • Highest camping: Nimaling plateau(4600m).

  • Highest elevation: kongmaru-la(5100m)

  •  Trek gradually stretch up and goes downhill at end. 

  • Season: May-September.

  • Grade: Moderate.

 

Itinerary

There are mainly two ways to do this trek:

 a) From Chilling to Sumda:-  you can do it in (5, 6 or 7) days, there is only one pass kongmaru-  la(5100m), you have to Drive for 60km west from Leh, trek Starts 5km after village Chilling where you have to cross the cable car (80mtrs.).

  3. Leh-Chilling to Skyu

  4. Skyu to Markha

  5. Markh to Thachungtse

  6. Thachungtse to Nemaling

  7. Nimaling to Chuskurmo

  8. Chuskurmo to Leh

  9. Departure

 

b) From Zingchen to Sumda:- You can do it in a (8,9 0r 10) days, there are two passes Gandala(4900m) & Kongmarula(5100m), You have to drive from Leh through Spituk village to Zingchen which is 40km from Leh. In this way after two or three day you will reach Skyu Village and from where you have to follow the Markha valley.
